Greetings from Kirkwall Grammar School in Orkney.

As part of our Global Citizenship initiative we invite any pupil, staff member, school and interested parties to add polite and postive comments and ideas about how we can share information that will allow our readers to:

understand and appreciate other cultures and ways of life, secure in their knowledge, understanding and appreciation of their own culture;

explore issues of international consequence and global interdependence on the basis on a sound knowledge of what they mean for Scotland;

recognise our interdependance with other countries;

deploy skills that will enable them to enter the employment market successfully and survive within a fast-changing and increasingly global economy;

develop positive attitudes to life; respecting the views of other, questioning stereotypes and oversimplification of situations, and making sound judgements based on good information;

be active citizens within Scotland, the UK and EU;

develop a committment to common human values; and

raise their aspirations and achievements.

At KGS we have currently one cohort of pupils who are involved in an eTwinning project with a school in southern Germany. The title of the project is Enjoying Cultures and you can view our joint blog pages at http://etwinningrsbd.edublogs.org/ Let us know what you think and any other ideas we could use to devlop this project.

20/11/06 Orkney Schools have now started to work in collaboration with school's in Shetland on a Global Citizenship/classroom ACfEx project. We hope to use the expertise of the staff at Anderson H.S. to see how we can develop materials so that we can take this project forward.
